Five great things to do in May in Auckland

Once again it’s a great month to visit Auckland, with a raft of varied and interesting events on day and night. We just love pulling together this list every month for people staying in Quinovic apartments in the city, but are always surprised how useful it is to those living locally too. Here are our picks for the month and of course don’t forget to go to www.quinovic-viaduct.co.nz if you haven’t booked anywhere to stay yet. If you’re attending the Art Fair this month, you’ll even get a discount (see below for code)

Auckland Writers Festival

Auckland Writers Festival
The Auckland Writers Festival is a fabulous annual event, and not just for those with a literary inclination. This year there’s everything from a fun hour for families with Jeff Kinney, author of the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series; to an evening with Robert Webb, British comedy king; to an interview with Hope Jahren, an internationally renowned medal-winning scientist, currently based at the University of Oslo, just to name a few. It’s taking place at various venues around the city, so check out the online programme now and book in some events before they sell out.

Stomp

Stomp
STOMP has become a global stage phenomenon over the last 25 years and this wild percussion group and their huge energy performances don’t show any signs of slowing down, still selling out wherever they go. If you haven’t been to one of Stomp’s wordless extravaganzas of rhythm, theatre, comedy and dance you need to put that right and join the 15 million people in 55 countries across five continents who’ve been to see one, if not several, of their shows. Check out their physical theatre performance at the end of this month in Auckland using rhythms, acrobatics and pantomime. You won’t regret it.

An Evening with Hillary Rodham Clinton

An Evening with Hillary Rodham Clinton
No matter what your political persuasion, it’s got to be an interesting evening listening to the first US woman nominated for president by a major party - in an election the world will never forget. Secretary Clinton will talk frankly about her loss and how she recovered and what it’s like to be a female in American politics in 2018. A rare opportunity to see one of the world’s most talked about women open up about what happened in ‘that election’ - and how to move forward after a disappointment of global proportions. Just remember though, she’s a politician, so read between the lines for the real story.

Body Worlds Vital

Body Worlds Vital
Not for the faint-hearted, the Body Worlds exhibition has finally reached New Zealand shores. Already visited by over 45 million people worldwide, the exhibition’s visual display comprises over 150 donated specimens. Yes, bodies - real ones. The human bodies and parts, donated for the benefit of public education - go through a process called plastination. The final product leaves visitors with an understanding of the human body, like never before. Rather than grotesque, it’s actually fascinating; the plastination process means you get to see what it’s like inside real bodies, and not in a stomach-churning way. The New Zealand tour specifically focuses on contemporary diseases and ailments and how everyday lifestyle choices can improve health and wellness.

Auckland Art Fair

Auckland Art Fair
The Auckland Art Fair is very dear to us all here at Quinovic as we are a partner in this wonderful event. New Zealand’s premier international showcase for contemporary art will be coming to town from the 23 – 27 of this month profiling some of the most interesting art from the Pacific Rim. With artists and galleries from Australia, parts of South-East Asia, the west coasts of North and South America and the Pacific Islands it’s a must for anyone who is looking to purchase art. Since it will be taking place at the Cloud on Auckland’s Queen’s Wharf, Quinovic Viaduct is offering a 10% discount to anyone leasing their apartments during the Fair. You can book your discounted accommodation on the Quinovic Viaduct website using the promo code ARTFAIR2018.
