Downtown | CBD Apartments for Rent
The Auckland CBD extends from the waterfront on the Waitemata Harbour southwards up Queen Street. The size of the CBD is 433 ha, similar to the Sydney CBD. The town of Auckland was created in 1840 and initially contained many manufacturing businesses. The CBD of Auckland has been the leading centre of New Zealand's business and economic development for nearly two centuries. Over the last two decades, the number of residential buildings have increased dramatically - increasing the CBD population up to 40,000.
Queen Street (named after Queen Victoria) is the main street through the Auckland CBD, starting at Queens Wharf and running up hill for almost 3km to Karangahape Road. This main street has a wide range of shopping, theatres and galleries. At the bottom of the street is the Britomart Transport Centre where the trains, buses and ferries all leave from. The Sky Tower sits in the heart of the CBD. At 328 metres, it is the tallest man-made structure in New Zealand and offers breathtaking views.
